Petrol and diesel pressure washers produce a very high pressure jet that can damage the skin and even penetrate it with potentially fatal consequences.
Always wear the correct protective clothing and face/eye protection.
Never point the jet at a person.
Never use an engine driven pressure washer in an enclosed area - Carbon Monoxide can kill in minutes.
Beware of the hot exhaust. When using a electric pressure washer always check the condition of all electrical connections.
Keep electric leads and connections dry. We recommend you fit an RCD to the plug to help prevent electric shock.
When operating powered machinery do not take risks. If in doubt, STOP and get professional advice.
When operating your wood chipper, always observe the following rules:
Never run a petrol engine inside a building or in a confined space- carbon monoxide fumes kill.
Always wear full PPE- gloves, Helmet to EN397, face shield to EN1731 ear defenders to EN 352, safety boots to EN345-1, heavy-duty work trousers and jacket.
Do not wear loose fitting clothes or anything that may get pulled into the wood chipper.
Do not reach inside wood chipper
Do not touch the hot exhaust or engine parts
Always keep belts and blades correctly adjusted and maintained.
Never feed wood or branches into the exit chute, this is very dangerous as wood can be thrown from the machine at high speed.
Make sure there is no wire or rope attached to any of the material being fed into the chipper.
Keep other people and pets 6m away when in operation.

Recent HSE advice is to only use an approved air fed welding helmet
Only experienced users would use welding equipment.
Top-handled chainsaws are of a type especially designed for tree service.
They should only be used by competent and trained operators.
The minimum standard of competence is set out in the Approved Code of Practice - PUWER986
Any person who wishes to purchase a top handled chainsaw for professional use working at height and in trees must hold the following Certificates of Competence e.g.CS30 - Chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting assessment.
CS31 - Felling of small trees assessment.
CS32 - Felling and process trees over 380mm assessment.
CS38 - Climb trees and perform aerial rescue assessment.
CS39 - Operate a chainsaw from a rope and harness assessment.
As the seller it is advisable that you check/record that you have seen the certificates/cards. By law, Chainsaw operators must have received adequate training relevant to the type of work they undertake.
Chainsaw operators include both employed and self employed persons.
They are also required to wear appropriate chainsaw protective clothing whenever they use a chainsaw. Including but not limited too - safety helmet, hearing protection, eye protection, mesh visors, upper body protection, chainsaw jackets, gloves, leg protection and chainsaw boots. When working in trees the user must also wear/use suitable tree climbing harnesses and ropes.
